The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has predicted that on September 1, the nation will experience a solar eclipse.
While making the announcement, Head of Media and Corporate communications of the Agency, Mr. Felix Ale said the agency will provide special solar filters for people to watch the rare natural occurrence. He also said the Agency is providing a viewing centre at its headquarters in Abuja to enable people especially school children to view the eclipse as part of its program to expose children to astronomical field.
He said the occurrence will be experienced more in the Southern part of Nigeria especially Lagos where there will be 80 percent obscurity while the least will be in the Northern parts particularly Sokoto state which will have about 5 percent obscurity.
He advised Nigerians not to see the eclipse as a mystical or spiritual occurrence and also not to view it with their naked eyes.
The eclipse will occur between 7:15am and 10:03am.
