The governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi has approved the creation of 35 new Local Council Development Areas for the purpose of accelerating grassroot development.
This is taking place after a motion: “Need to Establish Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), for effective grassroots development”, was brought before the state house of assembly on June 16,2016. He was urged by the lawmakers to ensure that development gets to every community in the state.
This was made known by the Chief of Staff to the Governor while addressing journalists whom he told that the approval will more legal teeth to the Oyo State Gazette No. 23. Vol. 27 of August 13, 2002, which created the LCDAs but bearing the names of the Local Government Areas.
He said the new LCDAs will be distributed in line with political and administrative zones of the state. The breakdowns include Ibadan zone 14, Ibarapa zone 2, Oyo zone 4, Ogbomosho 7, Oke-Ogun 8.
He added that the governor has directed the commissioner of justice to prepare enabling laws as Executive bills to be presented to the house of assembly so the LCDAs can take off.
